Pollution Studies have shown that increased pollution aggravates asthma symptoms and can increase the need for emergency room visits and hospitalization. Pollution exists both indoors and outdoors. Particles of sulfur dioxide and nitrous dioxide found in car exhaust are the main offenders outdoors, while wood-burning or unvented stoves and heaters are the main culprits of indoor pollution. What to Do About Pollution Triggers As with any trigger, avoidance is the best control measure. Sometimes this is impossible as pollution is in the air we breathe.
