Prevention Medications

Prevention medications are different than control medications in that they are not anti-inflammatory medicines; they do not work by decreasing inflammation in the airways. Leukotriene modifiers, one type of prevention medicine, prevent asthma attacks by blocking the effects of leukotriene mediators, a potent active substance created s the result of an allergic response. Leukotriene modifiers have both a control and a prevent activity. Long-acting beta2-agonists work by relaxing the smooth muscles around the airways to prevent bronchospasm.
