Maria M. Petrick, M.D.

Dr. Maria "Mima" M. Petrick joined Family Allergy and Asthma in April, 2007. She attended University of Tennessee-Memphis School of Medicine. After completing medical school, she served her internship and residency in internal medicine at Methodist Hospitals of Memphis. During that time she was especially privileged to serve a rotation with "one of the most well-known and respected" allergy specialists in the country, Dr. Phil Lieberman.

It was Lieberman, a colleague and personal friend of prominent local allergist Dr. James Sublett, who inspired her to pursue Allergy and Immunology as a subspecialty.

Dr. Petrick evaluated many great programs, was very pleased to be accepted to her top choice, St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. She chose the program in particular because of another prominent practitioner in the field, Dr. Raymond Slavin, who is known worldwide for his work with fungal diseases.

Dr. Petrick was raised in Memphis, Tennessee, and attended Memphis State University, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in 1987.

Dr. Petrick went on to earn her Master of Arts in Teaching in 1988 and taught science for three years. During her summer breaks, she served as a Ranger in The National Park Service.

Her seasonal duties took her to a number of exciting locations - Rocky Mountain National Park, Acadia, Maine; Cape Cod National Seashore and back to Rocky Mountain.

After teaching for three years her love of science evolved to a broader use. She grew up seeing what an amazing doctor her father is - he dances the tango with his osteoporosis patients - and after years of assisting her younger brother who was afflicted with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. It was then that she decided to pursue a career in the medical field.

Dr. Petrick moved to Louisville from Los Alamos, New Mexico, where she served as an Allergist/Immunologist, and served as the emergency on-call resource for her specialty at Los Alamos Medical Center. She sees patients in our Shepherdsville and Blue Grass offices in Kentucky, as well as our Jeffersonville office in IN. Dr. Petrick also sees patients in Somerset, KY twice a month.

Dr. Petrick and her family, which includes their two dogs Sydney and Shiloh, enjoy an active outdoor-oriented lifestyle which includes horseback riding, hiking, and camping. Her husband John is a consultant within the Pharmaceutical/Medical field.
