Diagnosis

The gold standard for diagnosing allergies is through skin testing. Skin testing is a simple series of pricks made on your  back by a  small instrument similar to a plastic toothpick. The instrument  contains small amounts of a single liquid allergen, such as pollen, mold, dust mite, animals and food. If you are allergic to a substance, a small mosquito-like bump will appear. For those patients who do not react to this type of skin test, an intradermal process may be performed.

Depending on the results of the allergy skin test, our providers will recommend medications, environmental control, allergy shots or a combination.
